Jonathan Vernon Smith
Urban Designer & Architect
With over 20 years of experience in designing and leading masterplanning and urban design projects from vision to delivery, Jonathan has worked on behalf of both private and public sector clients, including National House Builders, FTSE100 Companies, Local Government, Port Authorities, and Land Promotors and Developers. He is a member of the RIBA and a Recognised Practitioner of the Urban Design Group, of which Urban Design Box is a Practice member.
Jonathan began his career within a large architectural and multi-disciplinary practice with national coverage, eventually becoming the Urban Design Director responsible for the South West. In 2015, he founded Urban Design Box with the ambition to provide design-focused masterplanning within a commercially astute context, coupled with highly personalised client service. He has represented clients at Planning Appeals, providing evidence on design matters for both masterplanning and detailed design projects.
Currently, Jonathan serves as a Design Review Panel Chair at the Design Commission for Wales and is a volunteer Panel member and Chair at The Design Review Panel (www.designreviewpanel.co.uk), offering expertise particularly in Urban Design. Additionally, he is a visiting tutor at the Welsh School of Architecture.
